The “Now What?: Preparing and Empowering Youth Leaving Care” 3rd project meeting held in Lisbon with the participation of "The Smile of the Child’"

The 3rd meeting of the European project "Now What?: Preparing and Empowering Youth Leaving Care " funded by the European Program ERASMUS+, was held on the 6th, 7th and 8th of February in Lisbon.

Members of the scientific personnel of “The Smile of the Child” and Athens Lifelong Learning Institute from Greece, as well as representatives of the organizations of West University Timisoara from Romania (lead partner), University of Lusofona from Portugal, University of Tirana from Albania, DGASPC from Romania, SOS Villages Romania and SOS Villages Albania, took part in the meeting.

The project’s duration is 24 months and aims to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy on the educational, social and financial aspects of the life of the young people who leave the care system. In addition, the project aims to personal and self-care skills of the young people in terms of creating a budget, time management, health, nutrition, and hygiene and conflict resolution.

During the 3rd meeting, the educational material of project (project output 2) entitled “The Training Curriculum and Material” and the necessary procedures of the Mentoring Component (project output 3) of the young care leavers involved in the project were thoroughly presented and discussed among the participants.

Moreover, a short term training event was organized by the University of Lusofona, (train the trainers), based on the actual implementation of the “Life skills workshops” to the young care leavers.

Administrative and financial management details of the project were also discussed as well as dissemination and sustainability issues and the project management team set the next steps of the project’s implementation.
