‘The Smile of the Child’ participates to the global effort of the ‘19 Days of Activism for the Prevention of Violence against Children and the Youth, 1-19 November’ organized by Women's World Summit Foundation
“The Smile of the Child” takes part to the Women's World Summit Foundation (WWSF) initiative of the 19 Days of campaign uniting its forces with global partners from across the world against the abuse and violence of children.
On the occasion of the 19th November, World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse, commemorated in synergy with the Universal Children’s Day, on the 20th of November, “The Smile of the Child” will organize a number of national activities with the goal to inform and raise awareness on the serious issue of child abuse among students, parents, teachers and the general public as well as on the actions of the Organization for the protection of abused children on the levels of direct intervention, prevention and provision of a safe living environment for these children.
With the slogan “It remains a Secret” activities will be organized this year across the country and more specifically in the cities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Kavala, Heraclion, Chania, Chalkida and Larisa. The campaign will include media campaigns and web-online advocacy, press announcements, participation to public events, awareness-raising activities and preventative interactive sessions for the school communities nationwide.
In addition, based on the close cooperation of ‘The Smile of the Child’ with The Council of Europe and its commitment to serve the fundamental values and principles of the international institution for the protection of all children the Organization will support the European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. This year’s edition will focus on the specific theme of “The protection of children against sexual abuse in sport”.
In last year’s campaign ‘The Smile of the Child’ developed a set of concrete proposals in cooperation with all relevant actors and authorities under the aegis of His Excellency, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos. The aim of this initiative was to strengthen the prevention of and tackling of cases of sexual abuse of children in Greece.
