“The Smile of the Child” initiates the process of building a Home for Children in Heraclion in Crete

“The Smile of the Child” initiates the process of building a Home for children victims of any form of violence in Mesampelies area of Heraclion following the operation of the Center of Direct Social Intervention since March 2017.

On the 20th of March 2018 a Holy Water Ceremony was held by the Archbishop of Crete Eirinaios and the founding stone of the building was placed in the presence of the President of the BoD of the Organization, Mr. Costas Yannopoulos, donors of the property as well as members of the Rotary Club of Heraclion in Crete.

“The Smile of the Child” will build the Home thanks to the funding by Dr. Basile Khoudokormaff Charitable Foundation based in the Netherlands as well as Mr Evangelos Mavromichalakis and Eleni Mavromichalakis who donated the land in memory of their parents, the late George and Eleni Mavromichalakis and their son, the late George Mavromichalakis.

The Home will provide care, protection and love to all children victims of any form of violence and will operate based on the nationwide network of (11) Homes of the Organization across the country.

Upon the conclusion of the ceremony the President of Candia Rotary Club of Heraclion handed over to the President of “The Smile of the Child” a vehicle for the transport of children who will be raised in the Home. It is worthwhile to mention that the Rotary Club of Heraclion has undertaken many actions of support in order to ensure the necessary funds for the purchase of this vehicle.
