The Smile of the Child conducted interactive interventions among Greek school communities in Germany

 

 

A Team of Psychologists and Social Workers of “The Smile of the Child” visited Munich and Nuremberg from 20 to 23 January 2016 with the aim to provide information and raise awareness among Greek students, teachers and parents on the thematic areas of school violence, bullying and safe internet (cyber-bullying and addiction to the internet).

 

This visit took place upon the invitation of the Greek Community and most specifically of the “Förderverein der Mittagsbetreuung den Griechischen Schulen in Nürnberg” non-profit Organization for the support of the Day Greek School in Nuremberg. 

 

During this visit, the team of our Organization informed the Greek communities on the actions implemented by “The Smile of the Child” in Greece, the tools of information and awareness-raising, the good practices as well as the problems faced by children and families in Greece.

 

The team of our Organization addressed participants at the premises of a Greek educational Institution in Munich on Wednesday, 20 January and presented the 20 years work of the Greek NGO and its actions for the benefit of the school communities. On 21 January our team performed informational interventions among students of 5th and 6th Grade of the 1st and 2nd primary schools in Nuremberg as well as students between 6th and 9th Grades. Respectively, on Friday 22 January, The Smile of the Child performed interactive interventions and trainings targeted to teachers of the schools as well as high-school students. The visit of the Greek Organization was completed on Saturday 23 January, with a meeting with parents and the local Greek Community of Nuremberg.

 

Parents, students and teachers were highly benefitted from the provided interventions and trainings and all participants as well as the team of “The Smile of the Child expressed their mutual interest and willingness to continue this cooperation in the future.

 

The Smile of the Child is the largest internationally recognized non-profit, Non-Governmental Organization in Greece in the critical field of child protection, support of children and families with children in need, as well as free public health service for children, both in prevention and treatment.

 

From 2007 The Smile of the Child has established a dedicated and specialized team for Students, Parents and Teachers. The aim of this action is to inform the general public on serious issues related to children. Psychologists and Social Workers in cooperation with the Ministry of Education are next to school communities on a daily basis and nationwide, performing interactive interventions of prevention. In 2014 alone, The Smile of the Child conducted 614 interventions among school communities across Greece to a total number of 35.279 students.

 

The Smile of the Child is a founding member of the European Anti-bullying Network (EAN), a network that is comprised of 15 Organizations from 20 EU Member States of the EU (Germany included) and is coordinated by The Smile of the Child on a European scale. The Greek Organization is also coordinating the European Student Volunteer Network YouSmile that promotes volunteering actions of students from across Europe.
