Seminar on Human Rights & Hate Speech and Behavior towards migrants by «The Smile of the Child» in the framework of implementation of #HITproject
«The Smile of the Child» organized Seminar on Human Rights & Hate Speech and Behavior towards migrants (HR & HSBM) , in the framework of implementation of the European project "Hate Interrupter Teams: Youth Counteracting Hate speech towards Migrants and Minorities through Participatory and Creative Campaigning", that was held in on 25th November 2019 at the Education & Training Centre of organization, with the participation of 12 representatives of stakeholders and opinion formers. HIT project is funded by the European Program “Rights, Equality and Citizenship”.
Seminar’s aim was at raising awareness the ways in which the #HIT project is working on counteracting Hate Speech and Behavior towards migrants and the engagement of stakeholders and opinion formers through the establishment of Stakeholders Boards and collaborative work with HITs teams for the production of materials for the raising awareness campaign.
Members of the scientific personnel of “The Smile of the Child” as well as representatives of UNHCR , Hellenic Police - Cyber Crime Division, General Secretary for Lifelong Learning , Hellenic Theatre/Drama Education Network , Directorate of Primary Education of Athens, International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Cell of Alternative Youth Activities attended the Seminar. Additionally, it is well noted the participation of representatives from Theatre sector , Communication & Public Relations sector.
Seminar’s activities focused on the following topics:
- Learning about Human Rights through “Mainstreaming”
- Children’s Rights and the role of children in participation and awareness to defend their rights.
- Definition of Hate Speech & Behavior - HSBM (causes, consequences), presentation of incidents of hate speech and behaviors towards migrants and ways on how to deal with them.
- Presentation of #HIT Journey and implemented activities until today in Greece and in other partner countries.
- The advisory role of organizations – Strategies in tackling the phenomenon of HSBM through the establishment of Stakeholders Boards.
- Practical tools and activities for the engagement of organizations and collaborative work with HITs teams for the production of materials for the raising awareness campaign.
At the end, participants were able to recognise the positive value of creativity in campaigns against HSMB towards migrants and suggest to engage public figures, even to establish new cooperations in the framework of implementation of #HIT project.
The project’s duration is 24 months and aims at developing a new model of European youth empowerment to tackle racism, xenophobia, discrimination and hate speech and behaviour towards migrants.
