"Visit of representatives from the Embassy of Ireland to the Panhellenic Coordinating Operational Center for Immediate Social and Medical Intervention 'Andreas Giannopoulos
On April 30th, we had the honor and pleasure of welcoming representatives and staff from the Embassy of Ireland in Greece to our offices in Agia Paraskevi. This visit marked the culmination of a particularly meaningful collaboration, which began with the event we organized last June to strengthen cooperation in the field of child protection and assistance, with the support of Embassies and Consular Authorities in Greece (https://www.hamogelo.gr/gr/el/ta-nea-mas/ekdilwsh-synanthsh-presveies-ellada-enisxysh-sxesewn/).
On April 28th, the Embassy staff participated in an extensive training session by "The Smile of the Child", with the main topic being disappearances.
In this context, the participants had the opportunity to be thoroughly informed about all the aspects of this phenomenon: from what exactly happens in each disappearance case, who gets involved, how actions are organized, when the relevant protocols are activated, where the first traces are searched for, how the involved parties communicate, and what role each party plays. Procedures, steps, timelines, and critical issues concerning the management of emergency situations, such as natural disasters, fires, and the effects of climate change, were also presented.
The April 30th visit also included a tour of the Pan-Hellenic Operational Coordination Center for Immediate Social & Medical Intervention "Andreas Giannopoulos", where we presented the technological equipment and the operational methods of the center, which aims at the immediate and effective mobilization in critical incidents.
During the following discussions, the Embassy's needs were highlighted, both for the Irish citizens permanently residing in Greece and, especially, for Irish tourists, who during tourist seasons may become involved in cases of disappearance, abuse, or other emergency incidents. Through an honest and constructive dialogue, we exchanged views and experiences, with the common goal of shaping a framework of cooperation and mutual support, utilizing the expertise and resources available to us.
We sincerely thank the Embassy of Ireland for their trust and collaboration. The protection of human life has no borders, and together we can make a difference.
