Immediate and holistic protection of refugee and migrant children at risk in Greece

26 July 2018

Protection of children at risk is one of the standard and key actions provided by “The Smile of the Child” on a longstanding basis 24 hours, 365 days a year, free of charge across the country.

With the support of the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), “The Smile of the Child” contributes to the immediate protection of refugee minors in danger through prevention and intervention services such as registration of named and anonymous reports and reporting to the authorities, activation of procedures of protection and care, direct intervention for children at risk, counselling support, interpretation services via telephone, guidance, interconnection and provision of information.

126 calls have been handled from April to June 2018 by the specialized personnel of social workers and psychologists and 228 children and adults have benefitted from services related to cases of physical, psychological abuse, neglect, missing children, unaccompanied minors and minors-victims of smuggling, exploitation and trafficking.

The project “Direct and Holistic Medical and Psychosocial Intervention for Refugee and Migrant Children in Danger in Greece” is implemented in close and continuous cooperation with the authorities and the organisations that have the overall oversight of the beneficiaries.
