"CARE" PROJECT - 2nd Partnership Meeting

The second partners’ meeting of the European project entitled ‘Leaving with Care –  Living with Care’ with acronym ‘CARE’, which is co-funded by the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship Program, was held online on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.

The online meeting was attended by members of the scientific personnel of ‘The Smile of the Child’, which is ‘CARE’ project’s Lead Beneficiary, as well as representatives from partner organizations; ‘SOS IL TELEFONO AZZURRO ONLUS’ from Italy, ‘HOPE FOR CHILDREN CRC POLICY CENTER’  from Cyprus and ‘BRAVE PHONE’ from Croatia.

The ‘CARE’ project aims at training first responders (social workers, police officers, medical practitioners, helpline operators, child protection officers, prosecutors) on what to do to reduce the risk of trauma that children may experience during the processes of investigation, removal and out-of-home placement.

Representatives of stakeholders such as the police, helplines, social and medical services are involved in a series of CARE project activities aimed at preventing, treating and reducing any traumatic experiences that children may experience during the aforementioned processes.

In the framework of the ‘CARE’ project, during the 2nd meeting, the project team reviewed all activities and deliverables completed so far and discussed about the implementation of the first meetings of working groups of Experts in Croatia, Italy, Greece and Cyprus with the participation of professionals from the prosecutor's offices, the social and medical services, the providers and operators of residential care facilities, the providers and operators of helplines and educational institutions.

Simultaneously, the Needs Assessment of the training needs of ‘first responders’(social workers, police officers, medical practitioners, helpline operators, prosecutors, child protection officers) was discussed, leading to the development of a European set of Trauma – informed approaches in order to reduce the trauma that children may experience during the processes of investigation, removal and out-of-home placement.

The ‘CARE’ project’s material will be used for the  development of a Policy Recommendations Handbook  that will enable better detection, identification and responce to ACEs during the investigation, removal, and out-of-home placement procedures, while promoting cross-sectoral coordination, cooperation and mutual understanding between public authorities, NGOs and educational institutions on trauma-informed responses to ACEs during these processes.

At the end of the meeting, quality, administrative and financial management details regarding the management and coordination of the project were discussed  as well as dissemination and publicity  issues. In addition, the project management team set the next steps of the project’s implementation.
