Standing by Giorgos

Giorgos is only 13 years old, a student in grade 7. Until recently, everything was fine. He had a group of friends he’d made in kindergarten that offered him security. But things suddenly changed when a message he had sent to his friends reached the wrong recipient. His friends made a joke of it when, terrified, he asked them why…
That’s where it all began…He was ridiculed at school and ended up alone. He stopped going out, didn't participate in school trips, his school performance fell and he locked himself in the house with only gaming for "company".... His parents blamed the video games and attributed his outbursts to adolescence, until one day Giorgos finally agreed to go out for a walk. The hours passed and when, at 4:30 in the morning, he hadn't returned and wasn’t answering his phone, his mother called the SOS Helpline 1056. Her voice shaking, she asked desperately for help. Giorgos sent her a message saying he would not be returning home, that he no longer needed anyone. He declared that he was going to put an end to his life.… 
A psychologist from the organization reassured the mother while, at the same time, set in motion the procedures so that Giorgos could be located and safely returned home. Thanks to everyone’s immediate action and the experience of our organization’s professional staff, Giorgos is back home with his family, safe and sound.
