“Konstantina Angelique Gribilas Fund” organized on the 6th of October 2017 at the heart of Sidney a music night full of Greek colors. Australians of Greek and non-Greek origin joined their forces by raising funds in support of “The Smile of the Child”. Greek singers Kelly Kelekidou donated her talents, and performed on the night, whereas Greek actors Koulis Nicolaou and Andreas Georgiou moderated the event.

The “Konstantina Angelique Gribilas Fund” and “The Smile of the Child” by sharing their common vision for the protection of children in Greece collaborated with the aim to support children and families through the provision of free preventive medical and dental exams.

The aim of this partnership was to raise funds for the construction of a new Mobile Medical Unit of Preventive Medicine, which will be incorporated into the nationwide actions implemented by “The Smile of the Child” in order to ensure prevention and therapy for minors with health problems across the country.

In the framework of this action, “The Smile of the Child” operates the Multi-medical unit Hippocrates, the Mobile Medical Unit of Preventive Medicine and Dentistry and the Opthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology Mobile Unit of Preventive Medicine, all specially equipped and staffed with social workers, medical and nursing personnel, volunteer doctors and dentists.

The Units travel across Greece and provide preventive medical exams to children in cooperation with the competent national, regional and local authorities, services, school communities and public agencies.

In many cases these units have been mobilized in order to ensure the therapy of children who have serious health problems in the context of the socio-economic crisis, which has hit to a large degree the public health system of the country, as well as the most recent refugee crisis that constantly creates emergency needs for the provision of medical services to thousands of children and their families stranded in Greece.

It is worthwhile to mention that many of the children benefitted from the action live in remote areas with no access to healthcare services making, thus, this program more than necessary. In the course of 2017 “The Smile of the Child” provided 18.244 medical and dental exams to a total number of 12.749 children in 10 prefectural regions across the country.

The contribution of “Konstantina Angelique Gribilas Fund” is extremely precious given the fact that the new Mobile Medical Unit will also travel soon at every corner of Greece providing critical services to children and their families in need.

Thanks to the initiative of “Konstantina Angelique Gribilas Fund”, 108.000$ AUS were raised and will be utilized to the construction of the Mobile Medical Unit that has already begun in the United Kingdom and will soon be handed over to “The Smile of the Child” in Greece.
