“The Smile of the Child” contributes to the 10th Meeting of EU Civil Society Platform against Trafficking in Human Beings

Once more year “The Smile of the Child” took part in the meeting of EU Civil Society Platform against Trafficking in Human Beings held this year in Brussels on 5 and 6 December.

Representatives of NGOs from across Europe and National Rapporteurs against Trafficking had the opportunity to exchange views and their experience from the field of prevention of and tackling of trafficking in children. The Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos, greeted the opening of the event.

Aim of the meeting was to present the new priorities and actions of the European Commission toward tackling the phenomenon as well as bring together the national organizations with their respective National Rapporteurs. In addition, representatives of the European Parliament and organizations who have undertaken several initiatives in the struggle against trafficking presented interesting recent data and facts on the problem.

“The Smile of the Child” presented its actions and experience in the field of prevention of and tackling of trafficking in children, whereas special emphasis was given to the need to increase the level of information and awareness about existing mechanisms and services for the protection of children at risk, including refugee and migrant children.

During the two-day meeting members of the Platform had the opportunity to exchange good practices implemented at national and European level. “The Smile of the Child” is active member of the EU Civil Society Platform against Trafficking in Human Being since its establishment in 2013.
