“The Smile of the Child” and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children from the UK exchange good practices for the benefit of children

The team of “The Smile of the Child” visited the premises of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in the UK in the framework of a study visit held on 4th and 5th of June.  NSPCC is the leading children's charity in the UK, specializing in child protection and dedicated to the fight for every childhood. As part of his actions NSPCC operates a dedicated 24-hour line for children at risk or in need of assistance.


Peter Walness, Executive Chief of NSPCC welcomed the delegation of “The Smile of the Child”, comprised of the President of its BoD, Costas Yannopoulos and members of its scientific personnel. The visit gave the opportunity to the Greek Organization to learn more about the tools and actions of NSPCC in the field of child protection and in particularly in the area of counseling to children.  


Special emphasis was put to new practices and technological tools for the protection of children and the youth against the risks on the Internet and the risks of trafficking, sexual abuse and exploitation, as well as the handling of reports on cases of abused children or potential victims.


In addition, “The Smile of the Child” had the opportunity to present its actions and infrastructure including the Operational Center of the Organization where all the services and mechanisms of direct intervention for children at risk are coordinated on 24 hours-basis all across the country.


In the framework of this visit both teams identified a number of good practices, whereas they agreed on exploring ways of further cooperation and synergies for the benefit of children.
