Rikke Louise Karlsson MEP from Denmark visits “The Smile of the Child”

Rikke Louise Karlsson, Member of the European Parliament from Denmark visited “The Smile of the Child” on Tuesday 2017. Louise Karlsson is member of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group and Subcommittee of the European Parliament on Human Rights.
Prior to her parliamentary service at the European Parliament Louise Karlsson has worked for children with disabilities and health problems where she developed particular interest in the field of child protection. Upon her own initiative she sought to visit “The Smile of the Child” and gain personal experience on the operation of child protection Organizations in Greece.
More specifically, she and her team visited the Operational Center of the Organization where the President of the Organization, Mr. Costas Yannopoulos informed them on the creation of “The Smile of the Child”, the wide spectrum of actions for children and families in need and the current challenges on the ground of child protection.
Rikke Karlsson was particularly interested in finding out the challenges faced by “The Smile of the Child” in its effort to protect every child in need. Rikke Karlsson invited the President of the Greek Organization to present at the European Parliament the work of the Organization, the struggle to ensure protection for the children and families in need despite a number of difficulties and obstacles (imposed taxation, lack of funding etc.).
The Danish MEP had also the opportunity to visit one of the Homes of Care and a Support Center for Children and Families of “The Smile of the Child”. The welcome of children was warm and the entire team was impressed by the operation and family environment of the Home.
