Plane Pull event held in Greece in support of "The Smile of the Child"
The 3rd Plane Pull
event in Greece was held on Friday, the 20th of April in support of ‘The Smile
of the Child’ and in partnership with Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios
Venizelos’ and with the support of DHL Express.
The event was a special one for the community of the airport and ‘The Smile of
the Child’, held for a third consecutive year at the facilities of Athens
International Airport. The 3rd Plane Pull event became reality at one of the
airport’s runways with the participation of 20 teams comprised of 25
participants, whose mission was to pull for 20 meters an AIRBUS A300/600 of DHL
Express (weight: 100 tons). The event was moderated by Spyros Haritatos, a Greek
journalist, who participated voluntarily by setting the tone during the event
and encouraging all participants.
The main goal of all participants was to raise funds for the actions of ‘The
Smile of the Child’ in the field of healthcare through which 26.298 children
with health problems and their families were supported nationwide in 2017 (Mobile
Medical Units of Intensive Care for newborns and children, Preventive Medicine
through 3 Mobile Units, Support to hospitalized children in Athens, Patras and
Thessaloniki, Support to Children with health problems, Pediatric Care at Home,
accommodation of families with children who have health problems).
The President of the BoD of ‘The Smile of the Child’, Mr. Costas Yannopoulos
said: The Plane Pull event takes place for a third consecutive year in Greece
with the aim to support the actions of our Organization thanks to the precious
participation of Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ and the
support of DHL. Hundreds of people with great enthusiasm filled the airport’s
runway and their effort gave to all of us at ‘The Smile of the Child’ the power
to continue our daily, nationwide hard work! ‘The Smile of the Child’ struggles
on a daily basis for all children in Greece and it is important to know that in
this struggle we are not alone. I would like to express once again our warm
gratitude at Athens International Airport and DHL Express and the participating
companies and sponsors of the event which made the 3rd Plane Pull event in
Greece a reality! See you all soon at the next event!
The Director of Communication and Marketing of Athens International Airport Ms.
Ioanna Papadopoulou highlighted the importance of actions of this kind: «We are
very happy that we hosted for a third year this unique action at the airport of
Athens in honor of ‘The Smile of the Child’ and with the support of DHL Express!
The community of the Airport was represented by its enthusiastic teams and with
the slogan ‘’what we go through…for The Smile!
Ms. Papadopoulou also added: Over the past 16 years the company of the airport
continues to support actively the mission and actions of the Organization ‘of
The Smile of the Child”. However, in this midst of the current social and
economic reality, events and actions such as the Plane Pull event, become more
important by highlighting, apart from their primary purpose, the significance of
solidarity and team work for reaching a common goal”.
During the event the HR Director of DHL Express Greece Ms. Katia Lampropoulou
said: “For a third consecutive year we proved that the force of giving can pull…even
aircrafts of 100 tons! With great pleasure and enthusiasm DHL Express was
present at the 3rd Plane Pull event through the participation of its people and
its aircraft! This is one more action through which we stand by “The Smile of
the Child” and its precious work.
