«The Smile of the Child» regarding a 3-year-old boy from Skala, Laconia who was brutally abused by his mother
From the first moment when the tragic story of the abuse of a 3-year-old boy from his mother was made public
«The Smile of the Child» was mobilized and a social worker of the Organization was present at Athens Children’s Hospital expressing the availability of
«The Smile of the Child» to provide all the necessary services and its specialized personnel.
It is worthwhile to mention that
«The Smile of the Child» had received an anonymous report from a sensitized citizen to the National Helpline for Children 1056 in 2006 regarding the abuse and neglect of a 11-year-old girl from her own father in the region of Laconia, Greece. The competent authorities had been immediately informed as well as the local authorities as it happens in any other report received from
«The Smile of the Child». Unfortunately the child was not removed from the inappropriate environment she was living in.
The 11-year old victim of abuse is today the 23-year-old mother who tortured her 3-year-old child!
If competent authorities, government bodies, social services, welfare services and society had embraced the abused child back then would the ending of this case have been the same?
Would the ending have been the same if the 11-year-old girl had been removed from her family and was growing up in a safe environment with everything necessary for her health physical, psychological, emotional and social development?
«The Smile of the Child» having raised with respect and true caring more than 750 children victims of abuse in its Homes for Children and having acquired a substantial experience on the consequences of abuse to the soul of a child, it breaks the cycle of Abuse and addresses the phenomena of every form of violence against children in a holistic way. And this is achieved through a range of services that expand to three main axes: Prevention, Intervention and Therapy.

«The Smile of the Child» perform their studies, their military studies, work and create their own families contributing to society as active citizens. These children represent the best proof for the work being done at this Organization for over 21 years.
«The Smile of the Child» is providing specialized services and stands by every child victim of physical, sexual and psychological abuse, neglect, bullying, smuggling, trafficking in Greece with the same intensity and always with the goal to address in a holistic way every form of violence. The services are free-of-charge to all children in Greece, regardless of ethnicity and religion.
