Training Seminar for Teachers on Child Sexual Violence and Harassment

16 January 2019

“The Smile of the Child” organized a specialized 2-day training seminar of teachers on the topic of sexual violence and harassment. The seminar was held on 8-9 January 2019 in Athens in the framework of the European Project “CONVEY - Counteracting sexual violence and harassment: Engaging Youth in schools in digital education on gender stereotyping”.

In total; 7 teachers were trained from the cities of Athens, Florina, Peloponnese, Alexandroupolis and Serres. The training consisted of 5 sessions a) gender stereotypes, b) objectification of women in the media, c) gender based violence, d) sexual violence and harassment and e) disclosure steps and sensitivity.

The aim of the seminar was to train the teachers (by using a specialized material for teachers’ training developed in the context of the project), but also to provide them with guidance and material (a series of specifically designed activities developed in the context of the project) that can be used for the implementation of pilot awareness raising and educational programmes for students of secondary education, along with the innovative and educational digital tool/game “CONVEY, Not A Game”.

The game is based on results stemming from discussion meetings held in 6 countries with the participation of students (14-18 years old) as well as with women survivors of sexual violence and/or harassment.

The next step of the project is the implementation of a pilot program offered by trained teachers with the participation of adolescents.

We would like to express our appreciation to the participants for their great interest, enthusiasm and passion for this seminar, the topics covered and the project.

The CONVEY project consists of Organizations from 6 European countries: CESIE (Italy), “The Smile of the Child” (Greece), “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center (Cyprus), Sexual Violence Centre Cork (Ireland), Gender Alternatives (Bulgaria), Westminster City Council (United Kingdom).

The Project CONVEY is co-funded by the REC Programme of the European Union.
