The Embassies and Honorary Consulates of African countries supported “The Smile of the Child” through the 18th African Food, Music and Handicrafts Festival
“The Smile of the Child” welcomed on Monday, the 9th of December 2019, at its premises in Athens the Group of African Embassies and Honorary Consulates in Greece. The delegation comprised of Ambassadors, Honorary Consuls and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions delivered the amount of 13.000 €, collected on the occasion of the 18th African Food, Music and Handicrafts Festival.
This year’s Festival was held on the 8th and the 9th of June 2019 and was dedicated to the actions of “The Smile of the Child” for all children in need. Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Morocco, Burundi, Nigeria, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia, Zambia, Cameroun and Zimbabwe were this year’s participating countries.
“We are delighted that the Embassies and Honorary Consulates of the African countries support "The Smile of the Child" again through the African Festival. The aim of this initiative is twofold. Firstly, to bring the African countries closer to Greece and, secondly, to support an important Organization, such as "The Smile of the Child" in the actions it carries out for all children. We are proud that we have developed this great partnership. We feel the warmth and love of these people as well as their practical support. Through this initiative the African countries support Greece and “The Smile of the Child”, said Mr. Yannopoulos.
H.E. Dr. Noureddine Bardad-Daidj, Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and Dean of the Group of the African Ambassadors in Greece stated: “I am very pleased that the African countries contribute to the actions of “The Smile of the Child”. We are all very proud to participate in the work of the Organization and support its mission, which is extremely critical and sensitive in order to protect all children in need”.
The event was concluded with the handing over of the cheque from Mr. Noureddine Bardad-Daidj, whereas the President of “The Smile of the Child” handed over a symbolic award to the Group of the African Ambassadors thanking them for their valuable support.
Upon the end of the visit the delegation of the African diplomatic missions visited the Operational Center of the Organization, where all services and actions for children at risk in Greece are coordinated, and the premises of the European Student Volunteer Network of YouSmile, where student volunteers realize volunteering actions as well as awareness raising actions for children’s rights.
