Ankara, 19 December 2016

The event was held in Ankara on 16 December 2016 with the aim to inform the public authorities and the local NGO’s on the necessity to establish a free-of-charge dedicated hotline for missing and exploited children in Turkey.

“The Smile of the Child” was invited by the Ankara-based International Children’s Center to take part in the discussion and contribute to the event by sharing its knowledge and expertise, mainly from the operation of the 116000 European Hotline for Missing Children.

Participants showed particular interest in learning more about the cooperation established among “The Smile of the Child” and public authorities in Greece as well as the good practices and operational procedures of the Greek Organization in the area of protection of missing and exploited children.

The main aim of the actors involved in this effort is to operate the hotline under public funding and receiving support from NGO’s in terms of the necessary training required and the monitoring on the overall work of the helpline.

More specifically, the objective of this campaign is to bring together three different child rights networks in Turkey, namely the Network of Lawyers working on Child Rights, the Network for Combating Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and the Partnership Network for Preventing Violence against the Child) under the common effort to establish a dedicated hotline for missing and exploited children in the country.
