Building Talent: Open Call for Trainees

The “Building Talent” project aims to respond to employment challenges by creating a scheme that will support young artists (aged 18 to 30 years old) to foster their professionalisation by enabling them to develop self-employment skills in the long term through educational frameworks.

Among the direct target group, the participation of young artists from marginalised groups or facing social and economic difficulties will be encouraged and favoured. The consortium will support the participants with custom-made seminars and workshops with field experts, museum professionals, artists, and gallery employees. Simultaneously, the experts will have the chance to be fully informed on today’s inequalities in the art world and ways to diversify their workforces.

The Building Talent programme offers a series of 5 workshops and 4 mentoring sessions of 1 day each per country (Belgium, Greece, Latvia) to support emerging artists in their professional development.

10 young artists will be selected for each country after reviewing the applications received, will benefit from a hands-on approach to developing their career, while the field professionals will learn more about the needs of artists to enter the creative industry, allowing a real understanding of both ends: from the employer’s and the job seeker’s points of view.

Our Mission

The cultural operators of this project (NOASS, Creative District, IED and STOC) have all been active in the Creative Industries for over 15 years and are now joining forces to provide qualitative support to young artists through the Building Talent programme.

All partners’ values revolve around the support of emerging artists through social and educational frameworks, enhancing inclusivity and durability in the Creative Industries. 

The Cultural sector was the most affected by the COVID-19 economic crisis and the pandemic. Because of the rise of unemployment, instability and insecurity in the Cultural field, Europe prioritises the Creative and Cultural Industries in its support schemes.

Our Programme

Informative Session #1

An information session for arts and cultural sector experts to introduce them to the Building Talent project

Workshop #1: Introduction to Self-entrepreneurship for Artists

In this first training, participants will be introduced to the main concepts of self-entrepreneurship for artists. They will understand the challenges and opportunities related to the art industry and the benefits of self-entrepreneurship for artists.

Workshop #2: Cash Flow and Financial Management

Participants will learn the basic financial skills to effectively manage their personal and business finances as a self-employed artist. They will understand how to monitor and forecast their cash flow, set up a budget, and track their income and expenses.

Workshop #3: Developing Digital Skills in the Context of Promoting their artistic activities

Participants will learn the essential digital skills to promote their artistic activity online, develop their audience, sell their works, and improve their presence on social networks.

Workshop #4: Skills for Presenting and Marketing One’s Artistic Activity, Online and in Person

Participants will learn how to develop their personal brand and effectively market their art online, through social networks and networking. They will be able to create and present their work in a professional manner, build their network of contacts and maximise opportunities to sell and promote their art.

Workshop #5: How to Capitalise on the Skills Learnt During the Training

Participants will learn how to use and generate income from one’s artistic activity. Participants will learn how to use the skills learned in the different training sessions to generate income from their artistic activity. They will be able to create monetisation strategies adapted to their artistic style and target audience.

Tailor-made seminars and mentoring sessions will be offered to candidates in order to provide them with support adapted to their career path and to their needs.

Who Can Apply to the Open Call

Any emerging artist between 18 and 30 years old currently living in one of the participating countries: Latvia, Belgium or Greece. Of course, the applicant’s ambition and will to grow professionally are necessary and will be examined carefully throughout the application.

Required of You

Every selected participant is engaged to take part in the integrality of the program and attend all live sessions.
