3rd Meeting of the SAFE project on improving cooperation and coordination on child missing cases

The 3rd meeting the EU-funded project “SAFE – Sustainable Alliance for Missing Children in Greece” was held on the 26th of February 2018 in Athens. The project is coordinated by “The Smile of the Child” and is implemented under the funding of Rights, Equality & Citizenship Programme of the European Union.

The President of the BoD of the Organization “The Smile of the Child”, Mr. Costas Yannopoulos greeted the meeting highlighting the need to strengthen cooperation among the actors involved in the field, utilize tools of effective management of child missing cases and create impact for society reflected to the protection of all children at risk.

During the meeting emphasis was given to the need to update the related procedures and develop a joint Protocol and Memorandum of Understanding that will be presented upon the conclusion of the project to the leadership of the institutional actors involved in the field of missing children.

In the framework of the project educational seminars will be presented in Athens, Thessaloniki and Patras with the aim to improve cooperation among the actors and the authorities involved.

In the framework of the SAFE project, trainings will be held in Athens, Thessaloniki and Patras based on the mapping of the needs carried out by the project. The goal of this action is to improve cooperation among the actors involved in the field of missing children. The projects aim to contribute to the exchange of good practices and improvement of the level of awareness on the provided services of the European Hotline for Missing Children 116000 among the general public, including teachers, parents, guardians and students.

Representatives of “The Smile of the Child” and more specifically scientific staff of the Operational Center of the Organization where the European Hotline for Missing Children 116000 and the Amber Alert Hellas are activated took part in the meeting along with volunteers of the Search and Rescue Team “Thanasis Makris”, Samaritans volunteers, representatives of the Hellenic Police (Public Security and Missing Persons’ Units), Fire Brigade and Coast Guard.
